In the beginning, a couple with a child are shown heading the opposite way to their hotel, with the child handling a map and saying the parents were wrong. They are all outside Monarch theatre. They are being attacked by robbers after the man declines giving a homeless man a dollar, with the man being hit with the handle of the gun on the back of his head. He falls down and the woman with their child runs away, screaming. The robbers are counting their money, saying they even got an American Express card from this. But the other robber gets scared of that and says he was scared of being this high and doing this, as a man with a name they mumbled did the same and was then pushed down the roof from the 5th floor, with no blood on the ground after he was found dead. The scared robber said it was the work of Batman, and then in the light the shadow of batman descending was seen.

Photographer comes to join Mr. Knox at his newspaper publisher's office as she wants to get a few shots of Batman. She goes on a date with Bruce Wayne, sleeps with him and then he never returns her calls. She then is set up by Joker (Jack Napier) to come ot a museum where he introduces the idea of his interest in her, then Batman shows up and they end up leaving the vandalised museum and in the streets outside the Monarch theatre again where Bruce Wayne's parents were killed. He then fights the villains and the girl keeps taking photographs, then he takes her home and gives her a bundle to spread to local newspapers about how to save themselves from the deadly poison of Joker's, and knicks the film she placed in her bra with the photos. Bruce Wayne figures out it was 'Joker' who killed his parents because he remembers the phrase 'have you danced with the devil in the pale moonlight' when he tried to hurt him and when he shot his parents. In his memory, they were coming out from the Monarch theatre, and Bruce was holding a green box with popcorn, then they turned left towards the hotel where they were killed. Initially a robber grabbed hold of his mother's pearl necklace, and Bruce's prominent doctor father tried to stop the robber and so the necklace was torn in separate pieces and the father got shot. Then they shot his mum. Then Jack Napier's face is shown with a gun directed at him saying, 'have you ever danced with the devil in a pale moonlight', though a man who shot his parents seemed to be someone else.

Joker fell in a container of green chemical waste after a fight with Batman once, having a lucky deck of cards under his hat at the time. He was thought to be dead, and saught surgical help privately, from a badly equipped plastic surgeon. The surgeon could not fix his face, also all nerves on his face were destroyed, therefore he looked like he was always laughing. That green gasy waste causes people to have laughter fits and heart attacks after that, and nerve paralysis.

They all end up in a church after Joker gives away 2 millin dollars on the 200th anniversary of the city of Gotham before trying to poison them all with the green gas from which they are saved by Batman as he gets rid of the poison-filled balloons. Them all being in the church, the girl pretends to  be responding to the Joker's compliments and starts kissing his arm because she can see Batman is already there, then Batman attacks him after Joker says he could not forgive Batman for disfiguring him which Batman denies, and Batman tells him he could not forgive Joker for killing his parents which Joker also denies and then Batman shoots him saying 'Have you ever danced with the devil in pale moonlight', and they all clumsily start falling off the roof of the church,  then Joker stands and helicopter arrives to pick him up, but Batman shoots one of his arrows and a hefty statue comes hanging on his foot and because of the weight Joker is unable to climb up the ladder and lets his hand go and falls down. On the floor there is no blood and he is lying on his back with the laughter sound still being played from some sort of device that is fitted underneath his jacket around the area of his heart.

The photographer meets journalist Knox and he asks her for the pictures but she declines any work from them and goes sit in a taxi and drink champagne on her way to Bruce Wayne's palace being picked up by Alfred, his butler, having been told that Mr. Wayne would be a 'bit late'. He himself stands on the roof enjoying the new flashing lights as the signal that he gave to the town to use to make him aware of any forthcoming problems.

Bruce Wayne's butler Alfred J. Pennyworth seems to have queen's English and sounds very English. The actor for this role was Francis Michael Gough (23 November 1916 - 17 March 2011), born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to British parents; died in London. He took part in all 4 Batman films, directed by Tim Burton/ Joel Schumacher.
